1. Connecting to the Catalog
- Connect to the Stout Library Catalog.
- Click on the
button to display a screen which allows you to simultaneously
select several University of Wisconsin System library catalogs to search.
- Select the databases you
want to search. Note the directions for selecting more
than one database.
- Click Connect
to connect to the selected databases OR click the Reset button to unselect any catalog(s) you have selected. To order
materials not available from a UW library, use the online request form or WorldCat.

Note: Searching All Universal Borrowing Libraries, or several individual
libraries simultaneously, may be
SLOW.
2. Searching the Catalog
- When searching several catalogs, the Other Searches tab may be the default search mode. To perform searches in the same way as the Stout Library Catalog, select the Keyword Guided tab.

Enter your search terms, select options from the drop-down menus, and then click on the Search button. Following is the Keyword-Guided
search screen with a search for a biography of Asimov. UWEC,
UW-LaX and UW-Stout were selected as the catalogs to search.

- The resulting screen will
indicate the number of titles found at each institution using
the search statement you entered. Click on Show
to see the titles.

- A
list of available titles indicating which institution owns
each title is shown.
Click on a title
to display the record containing information on the item.

For example, by selecting
#4 "In memory yet green", the following record indicates
the title is available at both UW-Eau Claire and UW-LaCrosse--but
not at UW-Stout--and that both are not charged (i.e. available
for check-out). You do not need to be concerned about
which library to choose for actual delivery.
Note: Check the Number
of items
to see if a title has more than one volume. If it does,
each volume will require completing a separate request (below).

3. Requesting an Item
-
Begin by clicking on the
button on the top menu.
- The
following screen will appear. Fill in the requested
information and click Login.

-
On the next screen, select Universal
Borrowing Request from the
drop down menu. (Hold may be the default.) Then click OK

- Again, fill in your
7-digit
UW-Stout ID number. Enter comments or make other selections
from the menus.
The default location at which the item is to be picked
up is the UW-Stout Library's Circulation Desk. You may
arrange to order material from one library to be delivered
to a library other than UW-Stout, if that is more convenient
for you. Use the drop down menu under Pick Up Library
to select to which library the item should be sent.
Comments: Specifiy if you are a DE student and list specific course number.
Note: If your title has more than one volume, you will need to complete
a separate request for each volume. Indicate in the
Comment box which volume you are requesting.

- Click Submit Request.
- Ifyour request was completed correctly, you will receive the
following message.

If
your request was not completed correctly, you will
need to review the information entered for accuracy, re-enter
your Student ID, and click Submit again. If
you still experience problems, call the Circulation Desk at
(715) 232-1215.
You
will be notified when the item arrives in the Library.
4. Check for Completion
Check
to see that your request actually was completed.
- Click
on
on the top menu.
- Your personal library information will
display.

- If the information on your item requested does
not appear, try the request again.
- If still unsuccessful,
either call the Circulation Desk at (715) 232-1215 or use
the other online
request form.
5. Picking Up the Item
-
You
will be notified when your item arrives in the
library where you can pick it up at the Circulation Desk.
- Be prompt in picking up items, as they are
retained only
5 DAYS at the Desk.
- Fines
and bills will be applied based on the lending
libraries' policies, not on the UW-Stout overdue
policy.
- Check-out periods are:
-
Books -
28 days
- Videos and EMC
(IMC) - 14 days
